Clear Temporary Internet Files - Cache
Web pages are stored on your hard disk for quick viewing in the "Temporary Internet Files" (cache). The storage of pages eliminates the need for your browser to download content from a site every time you display the page, even if nothing has changed. Troubleshooting web browser problems often includes clearing the cache to remove any files from the cache that may have become corrupted.
To clear the cache (delete the files), follow the steps below:
Internet Explorer 5 & 6
- Open the Control Panel and double-click Internet Options.
- On the General tab, click Delete Files under Temporary Internet files
- In the Delete Files dialog box, click to select the Delete all offline content if you want to remove all web page content that is available offline.
- Click OK
Note: Files that begin with the word "Cookie" may not be deleted. These files are pointers to the actual files in the Cookies folder. To remove cookies files, refer to this page.
Netscape Communicator
- Open Netscape.
- Select Preferences from the Edit menu.
- On the left category frame, click the plus [+] next to Advanced to expand the menu.
- Click Cache on the expanded menu.
- Click Clear Memory Cache and Clear Disk Cache on the right window.
- Click OK to close the Cache dialog box.
